When buying a cash drawer, it is important to know what interface you require.
If using a docket (or receipt) printer, the cash drawer will usually be connected directly to the printer, and is powered by the printer. In this case you would need to select a "printer driven" cash drawer.
Where no docket printer is used, you will need to connect the cash drawer directly to the PC. In this case you would need either a "serial RS232" (or 9 pin) interface, or a USB interface. If using the serial interface make sure your PC has a spare serial port. Many PC's these days do not come standard with a serial port.
All cash drawers operate on Windows XP. Although Windows Vista now supports most cash drawers, special drivers may be required for 32bit and 64bit versions. You should check availability of these drivers before purchasing.
